Tra il 1940 e il 1943, il Nord Africa fu teatro di una guerra combattuta tra le forze dell’Asse e il Commonwealth britannico;  eserciti numericamente limitati si affrontarono in una lunga sequenza di offensive, ritirate e contrattacchi. Gli scontri avvennero spesso nel deserto, dove mobilità e capacità di mantenere le linee di rifornimento erano decisive quanto la forza delle armi.

Alle spalle del fronte incombeva Malta, base britannica strategica e minaccia costante ai vitali rifornimenti diretti verso Tripoli…
